Our commitment
Naspers Sustainability
We recognise that sustainable development and economic, social and environmental protection are global imperatives that present both opportunities and risks for business
Naspers is positioning itself to meet these challenges and make commitments to enrich our people and communities, and protect our environment.
To people

We attract the world’s best talent to build leading companies and outstanding products that are used by millions of people every day. We believe we offer something unique to our 28,000 people across the globe: a meaningful and rewarding place to put your talent to work.

Training and development programmes

Training and development programmes

Training and development form a vital part of our strategy of operating leading companies in markets with long-term growth potential. We ensure quality programmes are offered toour people worldwide. For example, we have created an inhouse course for classifieds professionals with a range of business and technical modules designed to increase skill levels and promote knowledge sharing.

Empowering our people

Empowering our people

Our people are empowered to be responsible and make decisions because we trust them to do a great job. We believe in them and we want them to share their talent and expertise across the group. We invest in our people so they can build their skills, their expertise and ultimately, their career.

Group collaboration

Group collaboration

We maximise the opportunity to share skills and expertise across our different companies. For example, each year, we host a number of global summits that bring together various communities of professionals from across the group.

To communities
Naspers’ products and services directly impact local societies and are used by millions of people across the globe every day. We build leading companies that empower people and enrich communities.
Think local, employ local, back local

Think local, employ local, back local

We endeavour to employ local citizens in the countries in which we operate to empower the communities where we have a presence.

As a result, we drive for diversity and support initiatives such as Black Economic Empowerment.

Understanding the impact of culture on business

Understanding the impact of culture on business

Because we work hard to support and develop local teams, we have a deep understanding of cultural business practices in the markets in which we operate. In South Africa for example, we support previously disadvantaged businesses by actively seeking such suppliers, in line with local legislation.

Community initiatives

Community initiatives

We strive to find new ways for our technology to have a positive impact on big societal needs. We contribute to educational programmes to raise awareness of our products, and create much-needed skills.

In South Africa, our mentoring programme, Rachel’s Angels, improves the academic abilities and life skills of students. In India OLX builds connections with its communities through programmes such as voluntary blood donation camps, winter clothing donation and a school bag drive for underprivileged children.

To environment
Our diverse operations range from printing plants to transactional internet platforms. Each type of business has a unique effect on the environment, requiring different responses as part of our sustainability effort.
Reducing carbon emissions

Reducing carbon emissions

A number of initiatives are reducing our carbon footprint and supporting our sustainability campaign. MultiChoice City, the group’s new building in Randburg, is our first building to be Green Star-rated, a rating received from the Green Building Council of South Africa. The building comprises over 34 500m2 of office area and was designed to energy-efficient specifications for a 5-star Green Star office design.
